Here is another post from my friend, Joe High. I’m sure you remember me talking about Joe in a previous post. If you would like to contact Joe, feel free to send him a note via his website.

As mentioned before, this post (and the previous one) was posted on The Perfect Networker blog that Joe maintains. With his permission, I am sharing his view with you.

Here’s another point of discussion from “The Go-Giver.”

The Law of Value states that “your true worth is determined by how much more you give in value than you take in payment.” A number of years ago when I worked in a different industry I came up with something I called an “upfront contract”. It wasn’t a contract in normal terms written on paper. Basically, my goal was to draft the value or benefits I would give to my clients on one side of the paper and on the other side, I would draft my expectations of my clients.

Relationships are a two-way street. That said, my side of the list should have 8-15 stated benefits or things I will do for my clients. I expect two things from my clients: 1.) return my calls 2.) share my name and business card with others. I share these benefits with my clients. The goal is to always share more in VALUE than what I ask of them. Give first, give more, and give often.

What’s your upfront contract that you do with your clients?

Feel free to post your comments below. Thanks for reading!

As most of you already know, I’m an Open Networker with my profile on LinkedIn, FaceBook, Twitter and many other social networking sites. As a result of my participation on LinkedIn, I met an awesome gentleman by the name of Joe High, a financial Adviser. His company is the 4th Quarter Financial Coach in Wildwood, MO. Joe contacted me and asked for a telephone appointment so that we could get to know one another with the hopes of referring business to each other.

If you don’t already have a connection to Joe, please contact me. Joe is a first-class networker! You can visit his profile on LinkedIn and you can also find him on PerfectNetworker.

In one of our many discussions, we talked about building relationships. One of the best ways to do this is by helping others without expectation of immediate personal payback. Joe truly believes in building relationships before building a business and I totally agree with him.

Our mutual friend, Bob Burg, recently published a book titled “The Go-Giver.” I was on Bob’s pre-release list to be notified when the book was published, as was Joe. If you don’t have a copy of this in your personal library, please make sure to do that the very next time you purchase a business book. It is a very powerful story!

Here is Joe’s review of the book. I was going to write one myself, but when I read Joe’s, there wasn’t much else to add!

The Go-Giver“>The Go Giver should be a staple in anyone’s self improvement library. Certainly for networkers! One of the keys is the the Law of Compensation which says that your income is determined by how many people you serve and how well you serve them. This reminds me of Zig Ziglar’s quote, “You can have everything in life you want IF you will help enough people get what they want.” How about you? How many folks have you helped get what they want? How many did you help yesterday? Not enough? How about today . . . how many people will you assist in getting what THEY want? How about at least one . . . this hour? And maybe one more before the end of the day? Remember, your income will be determined by the number of people you serve and how well you serve them!

If you have read “The Go-Giver,” tell us about it. Post your comments below and let us know what you think. How did you put the principles learned into action?

To Your Networking Success!
