Are You a Go-Giver?
As most of you already know, I’m an Open Networker with my profile on LinkedIn, FaceBook, Twitter and many other social networking sites. As a result of my participation on LinkedIn, I met an awesome gentleman by the name of Joe High, a financial Adviser.
His company is the 4th Quarter Financial Coach in Wildwood, MO. Joe contacted me and asked for a telephone appointment so that we could get to know one another with the hopes of referring business to each other.
If you don’t already have a connection to Joe, please contact me. Joe is a first-class networker! You can visit his profile on LinkedIn and you can also find him on PerfectNetworker.
In one of our many discussions, we talked about building relationships. One of the best ways to do this is by helping others without expectation of immediate personal payback. Joe truly believes in building relationships before building a business and I totally agree with him.
Our mutual friend, Bob Burg, recently published a book titled “The Go-Giver.” I was on Bob’s pre-release list to be notified when the book was published, as was Joe. If you don’t have a copy of this in your personal library, please make sure to do that the very next time you purchase a business book. It is a very powerful story!
Here is Joe’s review of the book. I was going to write one myself, but when I read Joe’s, there wasn’t much else to add!
The Go-Giver“>The Go Giver should be a staple in anyone’s self improvement library. Certainly for networkers! One of the keys is the the Law of Compensation which says that your income is determined by how many people you serve and how well you serve them. This reminds me of Zig Ziglar’s quote, “You can have everything in life you want IF you will help enough people get what they want.” How about you? How many folks have you helped get what they want? How many did you help yesterday? Not enough? How about today . . . how many people will you assist in getting what THEY want? How about at least one . . . this hour? And maybe one more before the end of the day? Remember, your income will be determined by the number of people you serve and how well you serve them!
If you have read “The Go-Giver,” tell us about it. Post your comments below and let us know what you think. How did you put the principles learned into action?

Carol,
Great post.
My friend Pat Weber just had Bob on Blitztime.com. It was a great learning experience. She wrote a series of 5 posts on her blog: one for each principle. If you want a quick summary of the book check it out: 5 blog posts @ http://tinyurl.com/OtherCentered
I will connect you and Pat on Twitter to be sure you are connected.

Thank you for the mention my friend Jim! I did have the pleasure of interviewing Bob Burg; something I will always remember most fondly. As you know Carol, Bob LIVES the Go-Giver Laws. He is the real deal.
For me as an introvert, The Law of Authenticity resonates the most strongly. Bob explains this one as the most valuable gift you have to offer, to give, is yourself. Introverts – listen to the one! As Deb in the book learned, all the skills being learned and applied in the world just don’t amount to much if you can’t be your true self. Bob commented on this saying, “When you have this (authenticity) then those sales skills, technical skills and people skills, now their effectiveness is multiplied geometrically.”
Ditto on what you say Carol, “Go get the book!” If more people put the 5 Laws to use in their networking the results would be easier and absolutely more abundant.
