Quote of the Day – Do quotes motivate you?
Bill Cates, from The Referral Minute, writes some great email posts. Today’s included a great quote that I felt compelled to share with all of you . . .
Quote of the Week
“Referrals come through who you are, not what you sell.”
Think about that – does that motivate you to change the way you think or the way you promote yourself? I loved that quote and it really hit home with me – building relationships, going for the referral – it all begins with the person – not the business! If you would like to read more from Bill Cates, you can find him at http://www.referralcoach.com Bill talks quite a bit about niche marketing – and he has found his own niche, working with CPAs. If you know of a CPA that is struggling, I highly recommend sending them to Bill!
Tell me what motivates you? Do you have a favorite quote that “gets you going” when you are stuck?
By the way – I love your comments so I appreciate your response!

Hi Carol,
As you know I love quotes, for journal prompts, food for thought, starters for my writing and just because I love words.
This quote goes right to the heart of the matter of networking. I agree with you that it points to the person, before pointing to their service or retail product. Great choice!
Thanks, Carol.

Don’t waste yourself in rejection, nor bark against the bad, but chant the beauty of the good.
Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 – 1882)
So many people just focus all their energy on what is wrong and are surprised that they get more of the same.
Always, always look for the good.

I LOVE quotes, and find them very motivating. Quotes have the power to carry a HUGE message in a few words. This particular quote is very powerful. It is a message that every business person should think about regularly and align their lives and intentions with.
One of my favorite quotes? What THINK about and THANK about, we BRING about!!
I am grateful to have met so many like-minded individuals who are focused on blessing the lives of others and improving the world one connection and one interaction at a time!

My favorite quote is “Thoughts become Things so think positive “.
Great subject Carol.

I absolutely agree! This is a lesson for all those shove-my-business-down-your-throat marketers (or family and friends)that we learn to avoid. I believe that you should approach folks in a manner that you would want to be treated.
It’s sometimes why I sign up at a networking site, just to not return for several months. Too many emails asking me to buy this or sign-up under them.
I agree people buy from people they know, like, and trust, no matter what the product or service is.
My favorite is “Of all the things I lost, I miss my mind the most”

Carol, I can totally relate to that quote, especially as I don’t own an agency and am therefore the person building a relationship before delivering the service. Networking is a wonderful way to reinforce this in a powerful way.

I love quotes and this one is a great one. It’s, you the person behind the “business” that makes your business unique. When a person shines/helps others then others are attracted to them and are open to working/buying/ect. with them.
Thanks for sharing

I would have to say that the one quote that has gotten me through a lot, and serves as an inspiration:
“If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.”
For me that is very representative of business. If 9 out of 10 new businesses fail in the first year, I just need to keep trying till I get one that works.

My mentor spent two years teaching me that principle. Any time I would get it wrong, he would remind me. Now it is habit. I am able to catch myself and adjust. I am able to observe others who are making that mistake and respond appropriately, by being cautious with any advice they try to give, or products they try to sell.

Thanks so much for your comment! I really appreciate your support! So many people do not realize that words ARE the heart of networking and should pay attention to how words are used. This is THE key to successful networking ettiquette!

It is amazing to see when people actually “get it” when networking – when they realize that without people there would be no business! Without people there would be no referrals!
What could be more fun than interacting with people? Meeting new friends and acquaintances, learning about what each other does, how exciting is that? Networking is really EASY when you focus on PEOPLE.
You know businesses (companies) come and go – people don’t leave – it is so important to realize that it doesn’t matter WHAT the business is or the name of the business – people do business with people! Learn to know more about the people in various businesses – you’ll be so glad you did! When the know, like and trust factor is there, referrals are a piece of cake!

Carol, this quote resonates with me too. I am surrounded my quotes in my office and have quote books all over the place. One of the potential dangers of the ease of “social networking” is to forget that it’s truly about creating genuine connections and conversations. People can become so caught up in the tool and “what’s in it for them” that they fail to engage with people. Thank you for the reminder.
